Displays
Your iPad,
as a health display.
An old iPad is the best Dash screen there is: bright, always plugged in, and it will genuinely stay awake.

Why this one works
Unlike a Kindle, an iPad can be told never to sleep. That makes it the one device in this list that does the always-on version properly.
Setting it up
- Open your display link in Safari.
- Share, then Add to Home Screen. Opening it from there runs it full screen with no browser chrome, which is what makes it look like an appliance instead of a web page.
- Settings, Display & Brightness, Auto-Lock, set to Never.
- Keep it on a charger. Auto-Lock Never on battery will flatten it in a few hours.
- Optional: Guided Access (Settings, Accessibility) locks it to Dash so a passer-by cannot wander off into Safari.
Safari can unload a page that has sat in the background for a long time. Dash reloads itself on the auto-refresh timer, so the worst case is one stale screen until the next reload.
